Vaccinations
It is a requirement of The Animal Welfare (Licencing of Activities Involving Animals )(England) Regulations 2018 that all cats boarded are vaccinated against Feline Infectious Enteritis, Feline Panleukopenia and Feline Respiratory Viruses ( Feline Herpesvirus and Feline Calicivirus). Vaccinations must be up to date for the whole period they are boarded – including annual boosters. We require production of the vaccination card prior to accepting your cat. Should the card not be produced and we are unable to confirm with your vet the vaccination status we will not accept your pet for boarding. Please note that due to data protection not all vets will release information to us without your specific permission.

Vaccination dates
Initial vaccinations require two injections. Approximately 3 weeks after the first vaccination your vet will provide a booster injection. We cannot board your cat until seven days after this 2nd injection. From first vaccination there will be approximately 28 days run in to your pet being accepted.
Provided the annual boosters are then continued on time your cat can be accepted for boarding.
Should the vaccination expire there may be a need for your pet to return to the initial vaccinations and so there will be another 28 day delay in your cat being able to board.

Please check that all vaccinations are up to date as turning your pet away on day one of boarding can cause a major headache when you have to urgently make alternative arrangements.

There is a reported shortage on booster vaccine availability. Owners are being informed by some vets that dates up to 3 months after expiry are acceptable for boarding. This is not the case. I have clarified with Chelmsford City Council and the Pet Industry Federation (PIF). PIF have also contacted DEFRA who say the expiry date is the date on the vaccination card, and not any subsequent period. The only exemption is if the cat has had a recent Titre test that covers the period of boarding and can prove the level of residual antibodies in the cat.

Please ensure that if vaccinations are due you give yourselves sufficient time to arrange the boosters.
